Our second PQA funding call is open

The Second Call for Photonics and Quantum Accelerator (PQA) funding is now open and closes at 10 am on 17 December 2024. We invite applications for projects advancing development of photonics and quantum technologies to enable socio-economic impact in Scotland’s Central Belt.

Through this Call, the PQA offers funding of up to £50,000 for projects of up to 6 months in duration. The available amount is the same for RA-Led projects.* For this second call we have £400k available and anticipate funding 8-12 projects, in the value of £10-50k.

This Call is open only to proposals led by staff at one of the four academic partners in the PQA consortium – the Universities of Glasgow, Heriot Watt, St Andrews and Strathclyde. Please see the Guidelines for further details and to download the application form.

If you work in industry, the public sector or third sector, and you would like to collaborate on a project, please get in touch via enquiries@photonicsaccelerator.ac.uk.

Quick Response funding is also open

Our new Quick Response funding route is also open from today. There is no closing date. This funding remains open until the year’s funding is allocated (currently ~£20k). This could be a short industrial project, small-scale prototyping, or materials for a public engagement event.

Applications for small projects requesting up to £5,000 can be made through the same process as the main funding opportunities. We aim to respond to applications within 2 weeks. Please read the guidelines for further details and to download the Quick Response application form.

New submission process

Our submissions process has changed. The first part of the application is completing an online form, the second part is uploading the core of the application and supporting documents as PDF files, through our Qualtrics-based survey portal.

The application review process will take place in January 2025, with results announced in February 2025. The deadline for submissions to this call is 17 December 2024, 10:00 GMT.

* The amount RAs can request has been adjusted upwards from £25,000 to £50,000 per project.
